Zoom Tips and Tricks

The Basics:

Location:

Background noise leads to a disruptive lesson, so it’s best, if possible, to pick a room in the house that is private, preferably away from shared spaces

Your Device:

You can use a laptop/tablet/phone to log in to your lessons – try to use your best quality and most reliable device. For guitar and singing have the device directly in front of you, for piano have the device to the side of the piano

Audio:

Pop on a set of headphones for your lessons, this’ll eliminate the dreaded echo feedback. You can always use the “recording session” technique and pop one headphone over one ear, and leave your other ear open to the sounds in the room

Basics Recap:

Private room, your best device, pop on some headphones

Advanced Settings:

In order to get the best out of zoom, we need to tweak a few advanced settings

Phone/Tablet:

Open the zoom app and click the “settings” cog wheel, then click meetings

Set “use original audio” to on

Laptop:

In the app click into “Settings” or “Preferences” and select the “Audio” tab

Under “Microphone” make sure “automatically adjust microphone volume” is NOT selected – then drag the “Input Volume” roughly to 80%

Under “Suppress background noise” select “Low”

Under “Music and Professional Audio” make sure “Show in-meeting option to enable Original Sound” is selected, and turn off echo cancellation
